Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987)

Warhol began depicting hibiscus flowers in the summer of 1964. 60 years later, his flowers continue to be some of his most popular subjects. In these screenprints, Warhol reinvented the still life, reimagining his flowers for a modern, energetic, pop generation.

Davenport is well known for his abstract paintings, which explore process and materiality. In recent years his work has consisted of carefully poured lines of acrylic paint down a surface, which puddle and pool at the bottom. This technique allows him to explore complex arrangements of line and color. Over the past ten years he has turned his attention to screenprinting and etching, building up an impressive body of graphic work.

Night Shade is a series of paintings in which images, derived from black-and-white photographs taken by Rauschenberg both in the United States and abroad, were silkscreened onto brushed or mirrored aluminum surfaces with the addition of acrylic washes and tarnishes. The tonal range is subtle and elegant, varying from dark gray to black. The series title may refer to nightshade plants, but also connects to the idea of shadows, evoked by the Aluma Black tarnishing agent that Rauschenberg used. Individual artwork titles include references to place and autobiography, often involving associative wordplay cued by one or more aspects of the respective artwork’s imagery.

Rainbows are a recurring preoccupation for Rondinone. The romantic, optimistic symbol has an easy and accessible appeal, one that can be experienced instinctively. Juxtaposing an allusive natural phenomenon with visually enticing pictorial conventions, Rondinone sets up a controlled environment for contemplation that is at the heart of his career. “I do believe in the spirituality of art”, he has said. ‘You don’t have to understand art, but you have to feel it.”

For the past year Art Strategies has been working with a fantastic team at Elanco to fulfill the company's Public Art For Neighborhoods requirement. Through goal setting, internal and external listening, and collaboration with the larger design team including Ratio Design and CSO Architects, we are proud to move forward the first public, monumental commission by artist Zheng Lu in the United States. The stainless steel sculpture will be sited at the front door of the new Elanco headquarters at the gateway to the One Health District.

Town of Plainfield Public Art Master Plan

Art Strategies produced an art in public spaces masterplan for the Town of Plainfield. The plan was developed collaboratively with Town staff and stakeholders, and input from the community.

Through historical research about the Town of Plainfield, aligning with current projects and developments, and understanding the vision for future growth of the area, the art in public space masterplan provides a toolbox by which Town staff, developers, and citizens can integrate art into public spaces around their community in a way that is thoughtful, actionable, and inspirational. 

The plan was officially adopted on October 28th by the Town of Plainfield Town Council.
